Santorini – a Place to be

Santorini is a great place to visit. One of Greece’s hidden gems, the island boasts a range of things to do and as such it may be one of your options for next year’s holiday.
Santorini is a group of islands made up of Thera, Thirasia, Aspronisi, Palea and Nea Kameni (volcanoes) islands.

Thera is probably the most known of the islands and as such is a popular tourist destination. It has both prehistoric and ancient parts to both its cities and countryside. The ancient city at Akrotiri, thanks to its excellent state of preservation, is the most important prehistoric settlement found in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Culture

If you are looking for culture in the Santorini islands then you don’t have to look far as there are loads of museums to look around. These museums include The Wine Museum, The Folklore Museum and the Argyros Mansion.

There are local churches amounting to about 250 in total to explore and see the culture within the islands. Some of the more impressive ones are the Catholic Cathedral, the Dominican Convent and the Prophet Elias Monastery.

Volcanoes

If the churches and museums don’t take your fancy try the Palea and Nea Kameni volcanoes. The two small islands in the centre of the Santorini caldera are the youngest volcanic lands in the Eastern Mediterranean. Grab one of the sea excursions to the islands or somewhere else as there are plenty of excursions available to everyone.

If you want to explore on your own then you could hire a car or go hiking on one of the trails around the islands. The longest hike is Fira at almost three hours of walking around the picturesque landscape of Santorini.

Beaches

If you just want to laze in the glorious Greek sunshine then there are ample beaches to visit and relax on. These are mainly spread along the east and south-east of the island. Most beaches offer loungers, umbrellas and various water sports to keep you amused.

There is a wealth of shopping experience in the local towns that you will be able to grab a bargain at. You will no doubt find the right souvenirs for everyone back home.

Night-Life

If you are stuck for something to do at night then Fira is the heart of the island’s night life. Fira with its bars, clubs and Caldera is a fascinating night out if you are visiting the island. Don’t forget to grab yourself some transport to get around the island with.

Renting a car couldn’t be easier and will mean that you do not have to worry about the ins and outs of buying a car or scooter and having to sell the car later.

With so much going on in Santorini then there will not be enough time to take it all in on one holiday. So some people have fallen in love with the island so much that they have purchased a holiday home in the sun here. With that though brings all the added extras of car selling/buying, which property and whereabouts on the island do you live?
